Kidology Team Meeting

Hi Family Ministry Volunteers & Greeters!

I want to take a minute and invite you all to join us for a very important time of sharing, planning, and praying for the Family Ministry @ Crossroads Church.  As you know, we are approaching a time of transition and it is so important that we spend some time together discussing the changes and sharing our ideas with one another.  We also have some very exciting news about improvements to our Sunday morning environments (Little Lambs, BLAST, Kid’s Quest Club, and Club 252) !!!

Please plan to join us @ the warehouse on Tuesday night February 1st @ 6:30 p.m.

It will be a brief, but very important time for all of us so please make this a priority if at all possible.  I am praying constantly for you and your ministry to the families of Crossroads Church.    I am convinced that we have the best volunteers around & God is using each of you to change families!

See you Tuesday!

::Coats for Kids::

Just a reminder that we will begin collecting coats THIS SUNDAY!

You will only have two Sundays to bring in your coats, so PLEASE don’t forget!!

We’re also planning to go deliver the coats November 20th together. This will be such a great opportunity for your family to serve another family!! Consider coming with us and showing your children what it looks like to serve those who have less!! There will be a sign up sheet at the check-in table on Sunday AM, but if you think you might forget, just drop us a comment here or send the office an email to let us know that you and your family plan to come with us.

I don’t think we know exactly what time we’ll be meeting yet, but it will probably be around 11am and I will definitely let you know beforehand 🙂 We typically stop to grab lunch on the way.

Here are the coats I bought for a grand low (when you consider how many coats I bought) total of $38!!

That’s six coats for $38, meaning that I paid roughly $6.30/coat. I know a lot of you have children and coats they’ve grown out of to donate, but at these kinds of steals you could possibly afford to donate your children’s gently used coats AND buy a couple more! I found two of these at the Fish Thrift Store in Loganville and I kind of felt like I probably bought all the decent looking and warm kids’ coats that they had. But then I noticed a kids consignment shop just right across the street and dropped in there. I bought the other four coats there and there were several others I could have bought! As I was ringing up, the lady at the register actually told me that they would possibly be able to donate coats to our collection, so if you stop in there mention it to them! I will definitely be hitting them up for anything they’re willing to share because there are A LOT of kids living in these refuge apartment complexes who are in need of warm coats this Winter!! Don’t forget about them!!

Coats for Kids

::ATTENTION PARENTS::

As we head into the month of November, we are going to be talking to your kids about how God takes care of us. God also asks us to take care of others. First we have to see a need and then we have to do something about it. We want your families to begin looking through your kids’ closets for clean, gently-used coats or buy a brand new coat to donate to the kids living in the Refuge Apartments. We’ll be collecting the coats on Sunday mornings for the first two weeks of November.

BYBC- Takin’ VBS to the (neighbor)HOOD

This week is our Back Yard Bible Club! I’m super excited because it’s only a little bit about a production and a lot about building relationships and teaching the kids about Jesus! That is so my cup of tea 🙂

So our BYBC won’t look like a VBS at the first baptist church by any means. Not to knock the VBS because VBS is cool, but we’re doing this for outreach reasons and taking VBS to the neighborhood. We have our volunteers set up but PLEASE come to hang out with us even if you’re not signed up, and bring your kids to participate! It’s our goal to be present in this neighborhood a lot more in the future! The neighborhood is off George Washington Carver in Monroe. Everyone will be meeting at the WH at 2:30 to drive over there on Monday.

It really will be a lot of fun! We’ll have a Bible story, some small group time, GAMES, crafts, WATER GAMES, worship, snacks, and we’ll probably end with a few fun GAMES!

We’ll be there all week, Monday-Friday from 3:30-5:30pm. Remember to meet @ the WH at 2:30 if you want to carpool and serve.

On Friday after we wrap up the BYBC we plan to have a cook out so that we can get to know the parents and share Jesus with them too. Our families are definitely welcome to come hang out because you’re the ones who we need talking and sharing with the parents!

A few changes…

::ATTENTION PARENTS::

We need more volunteers!! ALWAYS! Consider it an open invitation to serve! Not babysit, but SERVE!

Our children’s ministry is built around our small groups but there are several other spots you can serve in as well that are equally important. And because I’m not volunteer stingy I will put a plug in for the pre-school ministry as well. The younger the kids are, the more low key they are (for the most part).  So if you can’t commit to the energy the older kids have and just want to hold a baby for an hour or two, talk to Nicole!! She needs you guys too!

Okay, back to my 252 kids, they are great, and not all of them are high-energy. We have quite a few mellow kids too 🙂 Currently we have four small  groups; K/1, 2/3, 4th, and 5th. Beginning this Sunday we will be moving everyone around a little bit. The Kindergarteners will have their own group, 1st and 2nd will combine, 3rd and 4th will combine, and the 5th graders have their own group. We will have our leaders in the small group area early to help you find where your child should be from now on.

Bad news though, our groups are still too large! My idea of a perfectly sized small group would be about 6 kids per group. Currently we have about 15 kids per group!! The leaders are working too hard keeping the kids’ attention and don’t have enough time to connect with them one-on-one. We need to be able to have a different small group for every grade level, and some of the small groups need to be divided even further into a boys group and a girls group.

Pray about serving with our kids! I’m not even going to beg because I know that you will be blessed by serving with them, especially once we get the groups divided adequatly!! You don’t have to be a teacher, you don’t have to be super organized, and you only have get to serve for two weeks on and then you have four weeks off!

You will be given a chance to “kick the tires” and find where you fit in at when serving in CCWC’s family ministry this summer with a BIG CAMPAIGN we’re doing! So pray hard and get ready!! Our kids need YOU as their leader!

GRAPPLE for 5th Graders!

So we just kicked off our brand new small group JUST FOR 5th GRADERS!

We’re using this really cool curriculum called “Grapple” It’s basically a time for the 5th graders to discuss things about God and then dig in the Bible to see what God says in His word. This past Sunday was our first time meeting and we talked about “why everyone doesn’t go to Heaven.” It was cool hearing what the tweens had to say. A tween is usually someone between the ages of 8 and 14 who regularly watches the Disney channel but already feels the need to stay up-to-date on the latest trends; tween girls are described as “too old for toys but too young for boys.” We have a smart group of tweens!

Along with the discussion and games they play on Sunday mornings the curriculum comes with access to an easy-to-use and secure website where the 5th graders have to answer clues during the week which involve them studying up on what we’re going to discuss the following Sunday. They can also send messages to the leaders and chat with each other in forums. It’s a secure website because the only people who have access to our specific site are you the parents, the kids, and me. And we can see everything the kids are saying and doing. Before I gave the kids their user names and passwords I had them bring back a signed consent form.

Our motivation for starting this group was that it’s about this time each year that the 5th graders find themselves bored with our normal kids curriculum. It wouldn’t matter how fun or engaging it was, the truth is they think they are ready for more mature things and that is that! The small group leaders for that age group know not to take it personally, it’s just what happens. But we wanted the 5th graders to know that we care how they feel and want them to enjoy their Sunday morning experience! I think one of the things they will enjoy most is that the group is lead by a few awesome junior and senior students from the youth group. Juniors and Seniors in high school are cooler to 5th graders than I or any other adult volunteer could ever be. Now we have some really awesome adult volunteers, and our 5th graders know that. But the idea that a high school student would come hang out with them every week makes them feel pretty cool! No adult volunteer can compete 🙂 It’s just another one of those “that’s just the way it is” things that we’re better off accepting 🙂

So if you have a 5th grade student who maybe hasn’t been too into children’s church this year, we have the soluntion! Encourage them to come to our brand new small group just for 5th graders! I’m pretty sure they’ll have a good time!!
